OUR INSPIRATION
Say HELLO to Leo!
In 2021 a warning was given out that almost 40 dogs had hours left before a mass euthanasia was to take place at a local shelter. We were early on in our company but wanted to help any way we could. At the time Leo went by the name “Chai” and he was one of those dogs. A rescuer in NorCal (Oliver’s Dog Rescue) had commented on his post stating she would take him in if someone could get him to her. Knowing that all he needed to be saved was a ride was something we couldn’t overlook so we commented “we’ll do it!” and he was as good as saved!
A good samaritan that lived near the shelter picked him up and the next day we had him in our car and were embarking on the 9 hour drive to Chico, CA. It’s easy to say we fell absolutely in love with him which made the fact that he was hours away from death even that much more heartbreaking. He was perfect. And since his rescue he has been living the life he deserves with a family that adores him and spoils him.
The only reason Leo was going to be killed that day was because the shelter needed to make room. In this scenario all 39 dogs were saved but such an occurrence is rare. Dogs are losing their lives every day in our shelters due to overcrowding. While we are so thankful that Leo was not one of them we can never accept that dogs just as special as him are losing their chance right here in our own backyard. Kompoocha aims to do whatever we can to help while in the process highlighting the reality man’s best friends is currently facing.

Not every dog makes it out of the shelter. In fact, most never do.
But we choose to never forget.

“Grandpa (AKA Starlord)”
Rescued 2016, Loved 2016-2019
Rescued by the wonderful folks at Hope Ranch Animal Sanctuary in 2016 from a high kill shelter, this old man found himself affectionately named Grandpa by his rescuers. How he came to be at the shelter at approximately 15 years old and in his condition is unknown but that didn’t matter anymore. It wasn’t long until he found himself from shelter to rescuer, and finally to his forever home where he was spoiled rotten for 3 years.
Grandpa was loved dearly by us, the owners of Kompoocha, and along with our logo, Bella, inspired our mission. 3 years with him were not enough but we are confident it meant the world to him and that’s what matters most to us.
